Launch of New Hampshire Radio Ad Objecting to Gov. Sununu’s Anti-Choice Budget

WASHINGTON, D.C. — EMILY’s List Action, formerly American Women, today launched a six-figure radio buy educating Granite Staters about the abortion ban in Gov. Sununu’s budget.

In a party line vote, the New Hampshire House and Senate voted for a dangerous state budget that includes a 24-week abortion ban with no exception for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomalies. It also forces pregnant people to undergo mandatory ultrasounds and includes criminal and civil penalties for health care providers. Gov. Sununu signed it into law.

EMILY’s List Action Executive Director Melissa Williams released the following statement: “As we work to recover from the stark human and economic costs of the pandemic, Gov. Sununu’s budget prioritizes a needlessly cruel abortion ban, mandatory ultrasounds and criminal charges for doctors caring for their patients. This isn’t grounded in science; it’s politics. And it’s ugly. Granite Staters know your budget reflects your priorities. That’s why we are calling on the good people of New Hampshire to let Sununu know that his priorities are out of whack.”

The script for the radio ad, “Priorities,” is below:

New Hampshire families know when you make a budget, you pick your priorities.

And Governor Sununu has picked the wrong ones. Sununu’s state budget takes away our rights.

It includes an abortion ban with no exception for rape, incest or a fatal fetal diagnosis. It mandates invasive ultrasounds for women seeking abortions and criminalizes the doctors who perform them.

Now, medical providers who violate the abortion ban could face felony charges with up to seven years in prison.

This cruel bill harms New Hampshire women, families, and the doctors who care for them.

It violates our reproductive freedom.  And puts politicians between women and their doctors.

Those are the wrong priorities for New Hampshire. So, call Governor Sununu at (603) 271-2121 and tell him to prioritize New Hampshire women and families, and give us our rights back.
